The Ministry of Education wants to reintroduce mathematics in first and last year in the common core of lessons for the baccalaureate. The pupils of the CM2 class of the Fondary primary school in Paris ask their questions to Martin Andler, professor of mathematics emeritus at the University of Paris-Saclay, founder and vice-president of the Animath association, whose aim is to promote the taste and practice of mathematics among young people.

“What’s the point of doing math and doing it when you’re very young?”Thais first asks.

“What profession is related to mathematics?”

Martin asks again: “Phy are more boys interested in math and fewer girls? Loona would like to know in turn what the consequences are if “girls drop out of math”. Then she would like to know the number of women mathematicians in France and if there are “well-known mathematicians”.
