Saturday, April 2, it was world autism awareness day. A subject that interests the children of franceinfo junior. Like Dimitrios, a pupil in CE1, who wonders what “happens in children with autism”.
About autism, Sophie Lemarié, therapist working with children, answers the questions of these CE1 students from the European School of Strasbourg. The opportunity to explain to children what autism is. It’s Sofia Ava’s turn to question the specialist on the subject: “Why are there children with autism?” asks the student at the microphone of the show. Lyara speaks in turn: “How many autistic children are there in France?” The specialist explains to him that there is “100,000 children throughout France” who are affected and “700,000 people” in France.
Ilian’s turn to ask a question: “When children with autism don’t speak, can they hear us?” The specialist explains to him that this is the case before giving him some advice on the attitude to have when this happens, for example to speak slowly with “simple words”.
