More than a billion people are affected by obesity in the world, or one in eight inhabitants, warns the WHO, in a published estimate Friday March 1st. Among children, this rate has quadrupled in 30 years.
This is the topic of the day in franceinfo junior. To ask the questions, students from the PEF school in Saint-Ouen in the Paris region take the floor. They interview Martine Laville, professor emeritus at the University of Lyon 1 and at the Hospices Civils de Lyon. She is the author of the report Better prevent and manage obesity in France, published last year for the Ministry of Health.
“Is it because of eating that we become obese?” Lehna asks to start. Dimitri wants to know if being overweight affects more men or women. “Can we die from obesity?” Noah questions in turn. Lou wonders if there is obesity in all countries. “How do we lose weight?” Suzanne asks. “Are people getting bullied because of obesity?” Lehna finishes.
