Journey to the pyramids for franceinfo junior this Tuesday: 200 years ago to the day, Jean-François Champollion announced to the Academy of Inscriptions and Belles Lettres that he had succeeded in deciphering the writing of the ancient Egyptians, after ten years of research. A subject that is still intriguing in 2022. CM2 students from the Etienne Dolet school in Alfortville in the Paris region ask their questions to Egyptologist Chloé Ragazzoli, president of the French Society of Egyptology.

To start the show, Quentin first wants to know what inscriptions were noted on the hieroglyphs deciphered by Champollion. “Why do hieroglyphs look like objects?” then wants to know Daphine. Ismaël wonders if Jean-François Champollion might not have been mistaken… Finally, Daphiné wonders if Champollion “had been paid” for this discovery work.
