“We will ask the European Commission in the next few days to initiate a dispute, a legal procedure for the licenses to which we are entitled, which are the highest priority, the most important”, declared Friday, December 17 the Secretary of State for European Affairs, Clément Beaune, after a meeting between French fishermen, elected officials from the regions concerned and President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace.
After weeks of conflict, the British granted 1,027 licenses to French fishermen, including 23 on Saturday. “We still have a few dozen to obtain, around 60”, Clément Beaune said on CNews on Monday. “Now we are examining with [les pêcheurs] the last mile of this negotiation. It can be the dialogue on some licenses and it can be the legal dispute on others “, he added.
