Searches after the disappearance of the young Stade Toulousain hopeful Medhi Narjissiwhich occurred on Wednesday, August 7 in South Africa during a swimming at the Cape of Good Hopeare continuing. The French Rugby Federation spoke out a second time on the tragedy on Wednesday, August 15, and decided “to temporarily interrupt all supervision missions of all staff”. This decision comes “pending the final conclusions of the internal investigation“, which was launched following the player’s disappearance.

The FFR specifies that “the first elements collected on site by a member of the national technical management confirm that the site chosen for a player recovery session presented dangers”, and that he “this is an error of judgment that may constitute an individual and/or collective fault.”

South African authorities said Medhi Narjissi was likely swimming at Diaz Beach, near the Cape of Good Hope, when strong currents swept him into the surf zone. A crewmate, who tried unsuccessfully to rescue him, was able to return to shore unharmed, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said.

While the entire technical staff has been questioned, it is now the players’ turn to be interviewed. “with all the precautions that the psychological shock they have suffered requires”certifies the institution. The FFR and the Ministry of Sports are in contact, since two state executives are present within the staff. The player’s family went there, a kitty was opened to help cover their expenses.
