The United Kingdom is facing an upsurge in Covid-19 cases, with 88,000 contaminations in 24 hours. From Saturday, December 18, travelers wishing to enter France will have to present a compelling reason.

Faced with the rise of the Omicron variant, France is tightening the screws for travelers from the United Kingdom, this Thursday, December 16. Whether or not they are vaccinated, all will have to show a negative test within 24 hours, a compelling reason, and will have to isolate themselves for two days on arrival. “Normally I take a suitcase, there, I took two to take all my things because I think the situation will last a little longer”, confides a traveler at the Gare du Nord in Paris, relieved to have returned on time.

In London, some rush to leave the country to be able to spend the end of the year holidays alongside their relatives, in France. “I would not like to be in a complicated situation, so I arrive at the station in the hope of being able to change my ticket quickly and to take my test”, details a Frenchwoman. Across the Channel, 88,000 positives were identified in 24 hours, a record since the start of the health crisis. Additional restriction measures could be announced Friday, December 17, after the Health Council.
