France Télévisions with the M6 group, and five other members of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), an alliance of public service media, will broadcast the Women’s Football World Cup in France and Europe.

While France Télévisions and M6 had announced on Tuesday the acquisition of the broadcasting rights for the matches of the French women’s football team until 2027, the two groups confirmed on Wednesday June 14 that they will also broadcast the 2023 Women’s World Cup, to be held from July 20 to August 20 in Australia and New Zealand. France Télévisions will thus be able to broadcast half of the matches of the World Cup while negotiations with the M6 group are still in progress concerning the distribution of the prizes for the matches, including those of the France team.
“I am very happy to see the French women’s football team return to public service until 2027, with the Football World Cup starting this summer, reacted Delphine Ernotte Cunci, president of France Télévisions. For many years, France Télévisions has been a forerunner in the very wide exposure of women’s sport on French television. Thanks to this public-private alliance between France Télévisions and the M6 Group, which I welcome, we are amplifying the movement. We are going to make it a great celebration of women’s football to give all generations of French women the desire to practice the most popular of sports.”.
Agreements with public television in several European countries
This broadcasting agreement was also reached with the public television stations of several European countries, where the identity of the broadcasters was not yet known. “Fifa is pleased to extend the agreement signed with the European Broadcasting Union [l’alliance européenne de médias de service public] for the broadcast of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in five major countries, namely France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom, as well as in Ukraine, which will allow maximize event exposure”said FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
According to the press release from the world football body, “Ihe new agreement now includes a commitment to regularly broadcast content dedicated to women’s football beyond the competition.. This agreement will allow the competition to be followed and visible free of charge in no less than 34 European countries.
