Energy sobriety is a subject that concerns all French people, and for which France Télévisions is committed by relaying a new kind of weather on its antennas: EcoWatt. A signal of colors will now appear on the screens. Explanations.

So far, the newspaper meteo basically talked about rain and shine. From Monday, October 3, it goes green. It will indicate at the end of each bulletin whether electricity consumption is tight or not. called EcoWattthis electricity weather forecast will use three pictograms, with an identified color code. “In orange the situation is tense, and it would be quite good to participate in a collective effort, and do some eco-gestures. In red, the situation is very tense (…), on risk of power cuts”explains Myriam Seurat, journalist France Télévisions.

Clocks will indicate periods of high electricity use. The objective of this new signage is to anticipate, in the event of a cold snap. Everyone can then take the right steps: avoid charging your mobile phone between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. and between 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., or close the shutters in winter so as not to lose the heat. Electricity weather is done in partnership with RTE, the electricity transmission network. It is aimed at individuals, but especially at companies.
