A new coup d’etat shakes Burkina Faso, but also the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Sunday, October 2, the putschists targeted France, accusing it of wanting to maintain power in place.
With a metal barrier, assailants tried to pull out the barbed wire that protected the wall surrounding the French Embassy on Sunday, October 2, in Burkina Faso. Tear gas canisters were fired from the building to disperse the crowd. Already the day before, the French representation had been violently targeted. The demonstrators had tried in vain to enter the embassy. “Down with France, down with the French”chanted a man.
French institutions were also ransacked. An institute has been looted. On social networks, death threats against the French are also made. The country has 4,000 nationals, like Hélène Beaulieu, who works for an association. She was instructed not to leave her home. “We are waiting to find out what will happen”, she says. The putschists do not hesitate to brandish the Russian flag. The new self-proclaimed leader now calls for calm.
