The British had until Monday, November 2 to grant more licenses to French fishermen, at the risk of being sanctioned. The ultimatum has been postponed, and the retaliatory measures will not be applied before Thursday: Paris wants to give the ongoing negotiations a chance.

France has not applied sanctions to British fishermen, initially scheduled for Tuesday, November 2. A postponement regretted by French fishing bosses in the port from Boulogne-sur-mer (Pas-de-Calais). They still haven’t received a license to fish in English waters. “We let another four months go by without a license, then we won’t be here for a long time“, testifies a fisherman.

On Monday 1st, the United Kingdom granted 49 additional fishing licenses to French fishermen. “It is not while we are negotiating that we will impose sanctions. The next few hours are very important“, declared President Emmanuel Macron. No retaliatory measures against English fishermen at least until Thursday, November 4, therefore. Discussions are continuing: a meeting will take place in Paris on Thursday, between the Secretaries of State of the two countries.
