The explosion was expected, but it is no less impressive. Public Health France recorded 104,611 new cases of Covid-19 contamination over the last 24 hours, Saturday, December 25. On a rolling average over one week, this represents 72,299 cases per day over seven days. The previous Saturday, the agency had recorded 58,536 new cases, while Friday was marked by the announcement of 94,124 new positive cases.

The 50,000 mark was passed on December 4 and this figure has therefore doubled in three weeks, according to data from the health agency. And this while the French have massively tested themselves before spending the end of year holidays with their families.

Public Health France also reports in its latest bulletin 760 new hospitalizations in the last 24 hours (against 816 a week ago), or 1,217 new hospitalizations per day on average over the last 7 days. 160 patients have been admitted to intensive care in the last 24 hours (against 190 a week ago). The country has a total of 16,162 people hospitalized for a coronavirus infection, including 3,282 in intensive care, according to the latest data published by Public Health France.

Saturday, December 18, 15,370 people were hospitalized, including 2,933 in intensive care. That is to say an increase which does not follow for the moment the spectacular curve of the increase in the number of cases, whereas one estimates that there is a two-week lag between an increase in the number of cases and its translation in the hospital.

Finally, 84 people died in 24 hours in hospital, reports Public Health France, against 86 a week ago.
