With the good weather, spring allergies are back. Almost all of France is affected by a pollen alert on Tuesday June 4.

Runny nose, itchy throat and itchy eyes… Spring allergies are well established, Tuesday June 4. The main culprits are grasses: spike-shaped plants which have flowered and release very large quantities of pollen. On Tuesday, all of France is affected by a high risk of allergies, except Finistère. The spread of pollen is favored by wind, mild temperatures and dry weather.

“The month of May was a little quiet for allergies, because there were quite a few rain showers which left the pollen on the ground”, notes Samuel Monnier, engineer at the National Aerobiological Monitoring Network (RNSA). While it is good news for allergy sufferers, the rain also promotes the growth of these herbs which will then emit their pollen. The allergy peak is expected to last until the end of June. According to the latest figures from ANSES, 30% of French people are allergic to pollen.
