France leaves with 12 medals including seven gold

Frenchman Arthur Bauchet won the gold medal in alpine skiing slalom on Sunday morning at the Paralympic Games in Beijing. An hour earlier, the French Benjamin Daviet and Anthony Chalençon won the silver medal in the cross-country ski relay. At the end of these Paralympic Games, France therefore leaves China with 12 medals, including seven gold.

France thus ranks at the fourth placebehind China, big winner with 61 medals including 18 gold, Ukraine with 29 medals and Canada with 25 medals.

Arthur Bauchet, three-time Paralympic champion alpine skiing in Beijing, will be the flag bearer of the French delegation at the closing ceremony of the Paralympic Games this Sunday, at 1 p.m. French time.

Despite the war, Ukraine shines in Beijing

The closing ceremony of the Beijing Paralympic Games thus marks the end of a 13th edition placed under the sign of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, between perpetual concerns related to the situation and sporting success despite everything. Ukraine signs a very good success and leaves with 29 medals: 11 in gold, 10 in silver and eight in bronze.

China, the host country, has established itself as a new power in para-winter sports with 61 medals in total, including 18 gold. The Olympic Stadium in the Chinese capital, the emblematic “Bird’s Nest”, hosts a ceremony concocted by the famous director Zhang Yimou. On this occasion, the baton will be passed to the next hosts of the Winter Games in 2026 : the metropolis of Milan, associated with the ski resort of Cortina d’Ampezzo in the Dolomites.
