The sale of dogs and cats will be banned in 2024 in pet stores. A law must be passed to limit compulsive purchasing of pets. Each year, France holds the European record for animal abandonment.

They were “too cute” or “too cute” and yet 100,000 animals land behind bars at the SPA every year. In Yvré-l’Évêque (Sarthe), in the town’s SPA refuge, employees welcome around twenty cats and dogs. The animals were brought to shelters or left in the wild. The owner of the pound has even become a friend. “There is never a week when we do not welcome new animals, we do not consider a living species and it really breaks my heart“, confides Marc Ribémont, animal team leader at the SPA d ‘Yvré-l’Évêque.

A resident ofYvré-l’Évêque comes to bring a cat that belonged to his daughter. She explains that her daughter left for Guyana and that she would not return to France. However, she had left this cat abandoned in her old home. “We come to bring back animals like a piece of furniture, like a hi-fi system, like a TV. In fact, as soon as the consumption time is exceeded, we want to change it“, explains Naïs Venanzi, head of the refuge of the society for the protection of animals.
