“France has one of the most ambitious and credible roadmaps”, assures Agnès Pannier-Runacher

“Today, according to some experts, France – thanks to this government and the policy we are pursuing – has one of the most ambitious and credible roadmaps in terms of decarbonization and the fight against the climate challenge in industry “, said the Minister for Industry, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, Thursday 18 November on franceinfo.

According to the ministry, since the announcement of the France relaunch plan in September 2020, 141 decarbonisation projects are supported by the State, including 42 will be announced on Friday during a trip by Agnes Pannier-Runacher to a cement plant in Isère. These aids represent 758 million euros of state support for an amount of industrial investments of 2 billion euros and a target of 2.8 million tonnes of CO2 avoided per year.

“This is very important, because industry is 20% of the problem of carbon emissions in France, but it is 100% of the solutions to decarbonize all our activities.”

Agnès Pannier-Runacher affirms that there are today five sites in France “which represent 30% of industrial greenhouse gas emissions in France and 15 sites which represent 50%”. These are sites in the steel, aluminum, cement and chemicals sectors, “who need heat for their production process”.“The problem is well known and on each of these sites and each of these sectors that consume a lot of heat, we have a roadmap in which we are investing to help these companies achieve this turning point”, she assures.

“We are in the process of inventing another way of producing, we are in the process of inventing processes that will drastically reduce the carbon footprint of the industry”, adds the Minister for Industry, with particular reference to the development of hydrogen. “The objective is to replace natural gas with green hydrogen and massively electrify the processes”, she specifies.
