Storms, floods, floods… This is the first time that France has recorded such an accumulation of rain over twenty-six consecutive days, all seasons combined, Météo-France announced on Monday, November 13.
“Between October 18 and November 12, France recorded an average accumulation of 215.4 millimeters,” detailed the meteorological institute in a press release published on its site. “We have to go back to 1993 to observe a cumulative amount of 196.9 mm between September 21 and October 16.”still reports Météo France.
“A new rainy spell” to come
Scientists explain such a record in particular by the global meteorological situation and the “rail of depressions” present on the Atlantic side for a month. “This is why France is under the influence this fall of numerous water-laden disturbances which bring rain”details Météo-France.
Certain regions are less affected than others, however meteorologists qualify: the Mediterranean rim or even the north-east of Corsica are “areas little affected by the rains of the last three weeks.”
The phenomenon observed in recent days is not over, warns Météo-France, since a “new rainy passage” can be expected at the end of the week.
