The French men’s handball team will have to settle for the title of Olympic champion in Tokyo. The Blues failed to outclass Sweden this Friday evening in Budapest and therefore do not qualify for the final of Euro-2022. The Swedes, already executioners of the French at the 2021 World Cup, beat France 34 to 33. The French will play for third place against Denmark.
This defeat comes almost a year to the day after the failure of the Blues, stopped at the same level of competition during the World Cup-2021 by these same Swedes (32-26). This year, however, Sweden was deprived of several elements due to Covid-19, including its top scorer Hampus Wanne.
Les Bleus have not reached the European semi-finals since 2014, the year of their last continental title.
