Saturday November 18, the French army carried out a test firing of an M-51 missile in the skies of Landes. Residents were surprised by the magnitude of the noise.

A strange light appeared in the sky of Landes on Saturday November 18, shortly after 7 p.m. A deafening sound echoed through the night. The inhabitants of Biscarrosse (Landes) know that the nearby military base carries out regular shooting, but this time they were surprised. “A noise, you can’t even imagine. Even the walls, they were shaking”testifies a woman. “Usually, we are always more or less in the know and it’s not the weekend”indicates another resident.

A test “without nuclear charge”

The ballistic missile fired Saturday evening is a colossus weighing 50 tons and 12 meters high. The army was testing a new version of its M-51 for the first time. “This test was carried out without a nuclear charge and in strict compliance with France’s international commitments”, informed the General Directorate of Armaments. The M-51 is designed to be launched from a submarine. It can carry up to 10 nuclear warheads thousands of kilometers.
