In politics as in sport, coming out defeated in a duel is never pleasant, but losing face is even more so. And when the dispute concerns two behemoths of world football, beware of the loser.
In the soap opera around the guard of Kylian Mbappé which opposed PSG and Real Madrid, it was finally the first city which won, Saturday May 22, allowing him to keep his jewel for three more years.
A victory savored on social networks by the club but also relayed by the French press. The Team title thus “France 2-0 Spain” in reference to the victory, Saturday afternoon of Olympique Lyonnais in the final of the Women’s Champions League against Barcelona. The Parisian opted for a less mocking title with “PSG exults, Real fulminates”.
If the rest of the French press, and in particular in the regions, preferred to highlight the results of the local team during this last day, once past the Pyrenees, the tone is quite different. The Madrid newspaper brand sends a strong tackle to Kylian Mbappé and the management of this soap opera by titling: “You have to have class to play at Real”. The Spanish daily criticizes him for not having kept his word with the merengue club to join him.

It’s also time for anger on the side of his Madrid counterpart AS Diario which title “Too bad for him”. Finally the Barcelona daily Mundo Deportivo is logically more sober with a simple “It remains”.

In the rest of the international press, Madrid’s disappointment was generally relayed. The British daily Tea Guardian speaks on its site of an agreement which “angers” Real while the Gazetta dello Sport explains the underside of the complaint filed by La Liga against PSG. The German newspaper Picture focuses on the economic part of this extension, and speaks of “300 million bonus” on signing for the young French prodigy.
