France-Élaine Duranceau draws inspiration from QS for her new bill aimed at protecting senior tenants

Housing Minister France-Élaine Duranceau has finally decided to take inspiration from Québec solidaire (QS) with a new bill aimed at protecting senior tenants. However, it has decided to go even further by acting on the evictions of all tenants.

The minister has “made considerable progress,” declared QS MP Christine Labrie on Tuesday morning on this subject.

A little earlier, representatives of QS and Minister Duranceau’s office met to discuss it.

The Minister responsible for Housing is preparing to table a new bill “limiting the right of tenants to evict and strengthening the protection of elderly tenants”, according to the parliamentary paper on Tuesday morning.

Technically, this new legislative document could be tabled in Parliament as early as Wednesday morning.

Remember that Québec solidaire had already tabled a bill (198) aimed at broadening the scope of the “Françoise David law” which prevents the eviction of seniors in certain situations.

In April, the Legault government showed itself open to joining in.

More details will follow.
