Six Nations Tournament: France loses heavily to Ireland
Six Nations Tournament: France loses heavily to Ireland – (France info)
A little more than three months after the painful elimination from the World Cup, the XV of France missed its entry into the Six Nations tournament by losing heavily to Ireland.
France-Ireland, a shock at the opening of the Six Nations tournament between the French authors of a Grand Slam in 2022 on one side and the winner of the last edition on the other, all in a Vélodrome stadium in Marseille (Bouches -du-Rhône) supercharged. From the start of the match, it is the Irish who take the advantage, contacts multiply, the Blues suffer, the referee consults the video: yellow card for Paul Willemse. The Irish took the opportunity to score the first try of the game. The nightmare continues at the end of the first period when Willemse, author of a high tackle, logically receives a second yellow card and is therefore excluded.
The offensive bonus point for Ireland
Upon returning from the locker room, if Fabien Galthié’s players think they have restarted the match with a try validated by video, the Irish play. Final score: 17-38. “Tonight they outclassed us in every area“, reacted center Gaël Fickou just after the match. The XV du Trèfle leaves Marseille with the offensive bonus point, the Blues with a feeling of helplessness and a lot of regrets.
