The government will add 200 million euros to France’s support fund in Kiev, to enable the Ukrainian army to continue its purchases of French equipment, announced Tuesday, November 7, the Minister of the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu. , before the National Assembly.
This extension is part of the examination planned for Wednesday in the hemicycle of the finance bill known as “end of management” for 2023, said the minister. This is a text allowing adjustments to credits for the current budget year.
New equipment acquisition strategy
“You voted in committee for an amendment opening a new 200 million euros for the support fund for Ukraine, the government will lift the pledge” to allow these additional credits to be released, declared the minister.
“This will allow us to also pivot into a new strategy of acquiring new equipment for the Ukrainian army”he continued, judging that the war in Ukraine is “a conflict from which we must not turn away.”
The minister spoke at the start of the review of the mission’s credits “defense” of the draft budget (PLF) for 2024, at first reading in the Assembly. The budget of the Ministry of the Armed Forces is expected to increase by 3.3 billion euros in 2024 (+7.5%) to reach 47.2 billion euros, in accordance with what is provided for in the new 2024 military programming law. -2030 adopted in July by Parliament.
