Trenitalia is the first operator to challenge the French TGV on its land. An opening to competition which began on Saturday, December 18, in a context of social tension. The France Télévisions teams went back and forth in each of the two trains, to compare prices, services and comfort.

As far as fares are concerned, Trenitalia advantage, with very attractive first prices, from 23 euros per ticket. Opposite, the TGV is three times more expensive by booking at the last minute. But thanks to reduction cards, some manage to lower the bill.
Italian trains are cheaper, but are they more comfortable? At Trenitalia, there is a standard class, a business class, but also a very high-end executive class. There are also silent areas throughout the train where it is forbidden to speak. The two companies also promise a good WiFi connection. On the catering side, Trenitalia is banking on Italy. The prices are more or less the same for the two companies. What could really weigh in the balance is the number of trains. For the moment the Italians only offer two round trips per day, between Paris and Lyon, against 24 for the French.
