France recommended Monday, January 24 to its nationals to postpone non-essential travel to Ukraine, in the midst of escalating tensions with neighboring Russia. “As far as possible, it is advisable to postpone non-essential or urgent trips to Ukraine”, underlines the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in its updated travel advice. “In the context of the tensions created by the concentration of Russian troops on the borders of Ukraine, it is recommended to exercise increased vigilance and it is strictly advised not to travel to the northern and eastern border areas. from the country”, is added.

Unlike the United States and the United Kingdom, France is not currently asking the staff of its embassy or the families of its diplomats stationed in Ukraine to leave the country. “We have taken note of the announcements made by the United States and the United Kingdom regarding the situation of their diplomatic personnel in Ukraine and their families”, replied the spokeswoman for the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, when asked about this point. “We remain in close consultation with all our partners, particularly Europeans (..) and we are ready to adapt our position if the situation justifies it”, she added, however.
