Paris advises the French against traveling to Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Saturday February 12. The Quai d’Orsay has not, however, recommended that its nationals leave Ukrainian soil, unlike several other European countries. In the context of the tensions created by the concentration of Russian troops on the borders of Ukraine, (…) it is strictly advised not to go to the border areas in the north and east of the country” and “it is advisable to postpone all trips to Ukraine”writes the Quai d’Orsay on its website, under the heading “Tips for travelers”.

Other European countries, including Germany, Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands, have recommended that their nationals leave Ukraine in a context of high tensions, Washington having affirmed on Friday that a Russian invasion of Ukraine could intervene “at any time”. The European Union institutions have also recommended that non-essential staff members of the representation in Kyiv leave Ukraine to telework from abroad.

The Russian invasion is presented as potentially a matter of days by the White House, as Russia has deployed more than 100,000 troops to Ukraine’s borders. French President Emmanuel Macron reiterated Saturday to Vladimir Putin, during a telephone interview, the “determination to react” Westerners in the event of a Russian military operation in Ukraine, underlined the Elysée.
