France | A baguette-scented stamp to pay homage to bread

(Paris) La Poste is putting on sale from this Friday a stamp bearing the image of French baguettes, which has the particularity of smelling like bread.

Unveiled Thursday, St. Honoré’s Day, the patron saint of bakers, at the Philaposte printing house in Boulazac, this new stamp has a print run of 594,000 copies.

“The baguette, bread of our daily life, symbol of our gastronomy, jewel of our culture”, laments La Poste on its website.

The stamp, at 1.96 euros each (price of a 20-gram international letter), represents a wand decorated with a blue-white-red ribbon.

It has a “bakery aroma” scent, according to the website of the Parisian boutique Le Carré d’encre, which sells it.

“This smell is encapsulated. We buy it from another manufacturer. And the difficulty for us is to deposit this ink without breaking the capsules, so that the smell can then be restored by the customer by rubbing on the stamp,” described Damien Lavaud, printer at Philaposte, quoted by France Bleu .
