The heat wave currently hitting France is difficult for the most vulnerable people. In the Drôme, a home helper visits her patients to help them cope with this delicate period. One of them, under respiratory assistance, says he has trouble coping with the high heat. It ensures to infuse more oxygen. The aim of the home helper’s visit is to prevent his patient from suffering from dehydration. During the summer of 2021, 204 seniors died from the heat.
For people who do not live in the countryside, but who are cloistered in their apartment in a big city, the heat redoubles in intensity. Home helpers therefore have an important role in ensuring that these fragile people continue to drink and stay hydrated regularly. Also, it is vital for seniors to eat vitamin-rich meals to still have energy, because for them, heat waves are more difficult to bear.
