The Eiffel Tower will remain closed on Thursday February 22 due to a strike, Denis Vavassori, CGT union representative, told Agence Radio France. A meeting is planned for 1 p.m. between the unions and the management of the Eiffel Tower Operating Company (Sete), the CGT and FO told AFP.
The Parisian monument has been closed since Monday due to a renewable strike launched by the two unions representing staff. This is therefore the fourth day of mobilization. The unions denounce poor financial management of the monument by the municipality which owns 99% of the capital of Sete. They also regret the fact that the City of Paris will increase the fee it collects on revenues.
This conflict, which had already led to the closure of the Iron Lady on December 27, the hundredth anniversary of the disappearance of Gustave Eiffel, occurs in the middle of the winter school holidays and five months before the Olympic Games.
