four years after the accident, his mother demands “justice” for Theo

“It was the descent into hell”, Théo’s mother speaks for the first time since April 2019. Her 8-year-old child at the time had then had his leg amputated after getting stuck under a tree in the courtyard of the Bessens school in Tarn-et-Garonne.

All we want is for there to be justice for Theo and for Theo to have what it takes to be able to live after, because he will need it.“, declares this Friday exclusively at the microphone of France Bleu Occitanie the mother of the eight-year-old child (at the time) amputated of a leg after being blocked under a tree in the courtyard of his school located in Bessens in Tarn-et-Garonne in April 2019.

This is the first time that Myriam, Théo’s mother, has spoken in the media. “It was the descent into hell“, she recalled about April 18, 2019, the day of the accident. “We didn’t know if he was going to survive. It was a month in the hospital, five months of rehabilitation, physiotherapist, the specialist once a year […] He misses one or two hours a week of school. Psychologically it is very hard“, she explains, adding that she has not received any compensation.

No indictment at this time

Four years after this accident, there has been no indictment. The end of the instruction is approaching according to France Bleu Occitanie. A dismissal cannot therefore be ruled out. If it is announced, Theo’s family lawyer, Martin Vatinel, has already indicated that he will challenge it in court. In the meantime, the lawyer wants the municipality to produce the maintenance records for the tree. For his part, the expert concluded that the tree presented an extremely rare malformation invisible to the naked eye. On April 18, 2019, at the Jules Ferry school in Bessens north of Toulouse, three students were injured by a century-old chestnut tree during recess.
