The Kings announced the news on Sunday. Kempe set career highs in goals (35) and points (54) last season and was selected for the All-Star Game for the first time in his career.

Kempe became the third Kings player to score at least 35 goals in a season since 2004. The right-winger also led his team with six points in seven playoff games. The Los Angeles squad qualified for the playoffs for the first time since 2018.

A first-round pick of the Kings in 2014, Kempe had 186 points in 390 games with the Kings. The Swede was key for the California team, which finished third in the Pacific Division despite scoring fewer goals than all playoff teams except the Dallas Stars.

Kempe is expected to play on the Kings’ top line next season, along with captain Anze Kopitar and left winger Kevin Fiala. The Swiss was acquired from the Minnesota Wild in June and soon signed a seven-year contract worth $55.125 million.
