A Calaisian and three migrants were injured Friday evening December 31 in Calais (Pas-de-Calais) in a brawl followed by a settling of scores, and the police made three arrests, the prefecture said on Saturday.
“Against the backdrop of heavy drinking on both sides, insults erupted between a local resident and migrants”, in the Calais district of Beau-Marais, explained the secretary general of the prefecture of Pas-de-Calais, Alain Castanier.
The inhabitant of this neighborhood has “sought contact and there was a fight”, during which he was “heavily damaged, swollen”, he added. One “close” of this man then took his car and rushed towards the migrants, injuring three of them, two in the legs and one more seriously because the car “would have run over him”.
The driver of the car and an uninjured migrant who had in his possession “a chain or other brawl object” were arrested shortly after the incident, while the resident, shot in the face, and the three injured migrants were taken to hospital, according to Alain Castanier.
One of the latter, injured in the knee, was released from the hospital on Saturday and was in turn taken into police custody.
At least two of the migrants involved in this “aggression followed by a settling of scores” would be Eritreans, according to Alain Castanier.
