Four players from the Perpignan rugby club, the Foyer Laïque du Haut-Vernet, were hospitalized this Sunday after a violent fight during a regional 1 match in Coursan (Aude), France Bleu Roussillon reported this Monday. The altercation lasted several minutes and the police had to intervene.

The players have “broken noses and teeth“, some were victims”of concussions“, specifies the president of the Catalan club, Benoit Castanedo. He assures that his players were attacked by supporters of the opposing club, the Fleury-Salles-Coursan club. The president of the Perpignan club denounces “fistfight and racial insults“against the players”North Africans and blacks“. He announces that he will file a complaint.

Contacted by France Bleu Roussillon, the Fleury-Salles-Coursan club did not wish to comment. The Occitanie rugby league will soon examine the case in the disciplinary committee.
