Four employees of RTE (Electricity transmission network), aged 31 to 35, have been in police custody since Tuesday, October 4 in the premises of the General Directorate of Internal Security (DGSI). Their arrest took place as part of investigations carried out since July 2022 following major damage to the network, and entrusted to the DGSI, according to the Paris prosecutor’s office at franceinfo, Wednesday, October 5, confirming information from AFP. These degradations, with potentially very serious effects, would have resulted in power cuts, adds a source close to the investigation.

The fact that the employees are heard in the premises of the DGSI is explained by the status of RTE, an operator of vital importance for the functioning of the country. However, police custody takes place for facts of common law, according to a source familiar with the matter. They intervene within the framework of an investigation opened on July 29, 2022 on the counts of “obstructing a data processing system”, “computer sabotage”, “fraudulent access and maintenance in an automated data processing system”, ” introduction, modification and deletion of data from such a system”, specifies the prosecution.

In the morning, the CGT issued a press release denouncing “counter-terrorism services used to silence agents’ wage demands”. The union claims that these four employees, based in the North, are suspected of having “programmed the local passage of electrical substations”. “It’s about, he continues, a symbolic action of regaining control of the work tool, frequent during strikes, which has no impact on the continuity of the electrical supply, nor even on the safety of people and persons”.
