(Montreal) Two personalities from the academic field of engineering, Suzanne Lacasse and Carl-Éric Aubin, as well as the writer and editor Linda Jane Leith and the doctor Jacques Yves Montplaisir, are the four Quebecers who will be honored Thursday as officers of the Order of Canada.
The Governor General of Canada, Mary Simon, will invest a total of 17 officers and 43 members into the Order during a ceremony in Ottawa.
Director James Cameron, originally from Saskatoon and notably known for successful films Titanic And Avatarwill be the only one to receive the title of Companion of the Order of Canada.
The professor at Polytechnique Montréal and researcher at CHU Sainte-Justine, Carl-Éric Aubin, is known as “one of the most eminent specialists in the biomechanics of the spine,” we can read on the Governor General’s website. . He also participated in the launch of the TransMedTech Institute, which focuses on the implementation of new medical technologies in the health system.
The doctor of civil engineering sciences, Suzanne Lacasse, from Rouyn-Noranda, directed the Geotechnical Institute of Norway, located in Oslo. Described as a pioneer in geotechnical engineering, “her work in soil mechanics and risk assessment has evolved engineering practices around the world,” says a press release from the Governor General’s office.
The work of writer and editor Linda Leith to promote literature in French and English in Canada will also be highlighted on Thursday. Mme Leith founded the Blue Metropolis International Literary Festival as well as the publishing house Linda Leith Publishing | Linda Leith Éditions, which publishes works in French and English.
The Dr Jacques Yves Montplaisir is rather recognized for his work in the field of sleep medicine, notably being at the origin of advances in the study of insomnia and hypersomnia. He also distinguished himself as director of the Center for Advanced Studies in Sleep Medicine.
Other Quebecers will become members of the Order of Canada: the musicians Yves Lambert and Andrew MacDonald, the horticulturist Alexander Reford of the Jardins de Métis, the doctors André Blanchet and Cara Tannenbaum, the writer Suzanne Aubry, the personality cinematographer Carolle Brabant, Gregory Marchildon, health worker, and administrator Jean Houde.
