A week after the match between Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique de Marseille, four PSG players shared their “regrets” this Sunday, October 1st on social networks, after having resumed chants of an offensive and homophobic nature.
Ousmane Dembélé, Randal Kolo Muani, Achraf Hakimi and Layvin Kurzawa celebrated their team’s big victory (4-0) by singing words from the stands. The four players shared the same press release on Sunday on
“A week ago we all celebrated together at the Parc des Princes our great victory in the Classicwe can read in this press release. After the match, we let ourselves be carried away by the euphoria. We are well aware of the impact of our actions and our words on the public, especially the youngest who dream of watching a football match. We sincerely regret the words we should not have said and would like to apologize.“
“In the future, we will do everything to further respect our duty to set an example.” specify the four players. Dembélé, Kolo Muani, Hakimi and Kurzawa were also summoned on October 5 for these chants by the Disciplinary Commission of the Professional Football League. Their club, Paris Saint-Germain, had following the match condemned “all forms of discrimination, notably homophobia, and would like to point out that they have no place either in stadiums or in society“.
The Minister of Sports, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, for her part estimated that the match between PSG and OM should have been stopped because of these chants, which had started while the match was still in progress. “This has been done in the past, in 2018, 2019, but it has been done much less for some time, she indicated following a press conference. This is one of the elements that must happen on the ground for the situation to change, in the same way that our legal arsenal has evolved.“
