Four police officers from the BAC, in Marseille, were indicted, and one of them was remanded in custody on Thursday, July 20. They are suspected of having seriously injured a young man of 22 years, on the sidelines of the riots in the city.

Marseille police waited for hours, on the evening of Thursday July 20, at the foot of the Marseille courthouse (Bouches-du-Rhône). Of the four officers suspected of violence, one went to prison, applauded by his colleagues. The other three indicted are free, under judicial control. Again, dozens of officials came to cheer them on leaving their hearing.

Assault on a 22-year-old boy

The charges are however serious: on July 2, when Marseille was shaken by a night of riots, these police officers allegedly assaulted a 22-year-old young man. Accompanied by a friend, he came across plainclothes police officers from the BAC that day. He says he received a flashball shot, then shots, for no reason. His injuries are heavy: coma, fractured jaw, he could even lose the use of one eye. “They pulled me by my clothes and dragged me into an alley, they put me on my back, one of them put his knees on my legs to block them”he said.
