Four people were to be tried in immediate appearance, Monday, October 31, at the Niort judicial court for “participation in a group formed with a view to committing violence and degradation”, after the anti-basin demonstration on Saturday, October 29 in Sainte-Soline , in Deux-Sèvres, learned franceinfo from the Niort prosecutor’s office.

They are among the six people who were arrested and taken into police custody on Saturday after clashes between demonstrators and gendarmes. The police custody of a fifth person was lifted for medical incompatibility and the sixth person, arrested for refusing to comply, will be tried by penal order.

Their trial was finally adjourned to November 28, at their request. In the meantime, the four suspects are placed under judicial control.

The gendarmes were targeted by mortar fire, throwing Molotov cocktails and various projectiles, according to the Deux-Sèvres prefecture. During these clashes, around sixty police officers and around thirty opponents of the construction of giant water reserves in this Poitou commune were injured.

After this day of demonstration, the Minister of the Interior denounced a form of “ecoterrorism” on Sunday. Gérald Darmanin has decided to keep more than 1,000 gendarmes on site to “that no ZAD is installed”.
