Storm Isha: four people die in UK and Ireland
Storm Isha: four people died in the United Kingdom and Ireland – (France 2)
After the cold, northern Europe is now swept by the wind on Monday January 22. Due to storm Isha, winds of 130 km/h were recorded in Normandy and the North. 36 departments have been placed on yellow alert by Météo France.
Across the Channel, in the north-east of England, strong gusts of wind prevented some planes from landing. Storm Isha hit Great Britain and Ireland hard on the night of January 21-22. Four people died on the roads. Local authorities have advised residents against sleeping near windows. Gusts of 180 km/h were recorded in Scotland, where some trees were unable to withstand the power of the wind. Hundreds of flights in the country have been disrupted.
Flights diverted to Paris
To land safely, the planes were diverted to Paris. The passengers, shaken, had to take the bus to reach the United Kingdom. “The plane started to pitch and rotate (…) we understood that we were not going to land”, relates one of them. On the railway tracks, trains are not running either, because the wind has carried many objects onto the road.
