The Longueuil Agglomeration Police Service (SPAL) confirmed that it had arrested four people in connection with the attack on a student which allegedly occurred Tuesday at a secondary school in Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, in Montérégie.
“Teenagers who attend the Mont-Bruno secondary school are said to have physically attacked another student at the school,” said François Boucher, public relations officer at SPAL. The four suspects could face charges of assault, assault with a weapon and false imprisonment, he said.
The injuries suffered by the teenager, however, are not life-threatening, said Mr. Boucher. “He was taken care of quickly,” he reported. The latter added that a prevention team from the Police Department was available to intervene with students and staff members who needed it.
On the social network X, liberal MP Marwah Rizqy commented on the video of the attack which was relayed by various media. “A crime of such great violence. Young people filming the scene. No one helps. It lifts my heart,” said this elected representative of the National Assembly of Quebec.
The one who is also spokesperson for the official opposition on education stressed that the victim “will have significant physical and psychological after-effects”.
NDP federal MP Alexandre Boulerice responded to Ms. Rizqy’s publication by describing the images of the attack as “revolting.” “I cannot believe this gratuitous and repeated violence. This child is going to need care and protection,” he wrote.
