Four men were sentenced Tuesday, February 22 by the correctional court of Nîmes to prison terms, three days after their violent attack on a transgender woman in the city center of Nîmes, reports France Bleu Gard Lozère. The four men were sentenced to terms ranging from ten months to six months in prison.

The attack took place on the night of Friday to Saturday, around 2 a.m., in the heart of the Ecusson, in Nîmes. Samantha, a 40-year-old transgender woman of Brazilian origin, had been beaten up by the four men, who were drunk at the time. Homophobic insults were also uttered by the four individuals. The very violent scene was filmed by a local resident and broadcast to the audience on Tuesday February 22.

“The last kick to the head could have been fatal”, explained Samantha’s lawyer, Me Margaux Expert. The court did not ask for the detention of the attackers, aged 22 to 36, who will therefore be able to adjust their sentences under an electronic bracelet.
