four Italians swept away by an avalanche, three are missing

In Savoie, four Italians were swept away in an avalanche in Savoie, in Haute-Tarentaise, reports Thursday April 13, in the evening, France Bleu Pays de Savoie. According to a provisional report, there is one survivor. The three other Italian skiers are missing.

The avalanche took place at Pointe de la Golette (3,100 meters), a peak located on the Franco-Italian border. One of the skiers, an Italian guide in his forties, managed to raise the alarm by triggering an emergency beacon, then descended on his own via the Italian side before being picked up by rescuers , in a state of shock.

Difficult research due to the weather

Thursday, at 7:30 p.m., three skiers are missing, aspiring Italian guides in training aged between 20 and 30 and from Valle d’Aosta. French rescuers from the CRS Alpes attempted a helicopter approach but had to give up due to unfavorable weather.

The research was suspended at the beginning of Thursday evening, on the French side and on the Italian side. Rescuers from the Guardia di Finanza had started to set up a terrestrial caravan to try to reach the avalanche zone, but they also had to give up, because of the weather and the risk of over-avalanche.

The search, which mobilizes eight to ten rescuers from both countries, should resume on Friday morning. Rescuers are hoping for more favorable weather to be able to fly over the area in a helicopter.
