Four people are being treated for “non-life threatening injuries”, said Sydney emergency services, where a man was arrested after stabbing several people.
Australian police had previously announced this arrest, two days after a knife attack which left six people dead in the city.
Paramedics told AFP that four men aged between 20 and 70 were treated, notably for lacerations.
According to a live broadcast, Monday’s attack took place during a religious service at an Assyrian church in the west of the city.
A man approached the altar, raised his right arm and struck the preacher with a knife, causing panic and screams among the worshipers.
A number of people rushed to help.
On Saturday, another knife attack left six people dead and several injured in Sydney. It was perpetrated in a shopping center by a 40-year-old man suffering from mental illness, with nothing to suggest a possible terrorist motive, according to Australian police.
Saturday’s attacker appears to have targeted women as a priority, the same source added on Monday.
