Four graves of deceased Jews defaced in Eure, the prefect condemns “anti-Semitic acts”

Four graves of deceased people of the Jewish faith were “tainted” And “degraded” at the Madeleine cemetery in Eure on Wednesday May 29, indicates the department prefecture in a press release.

According to a police source, the four graves were sprayed with black paint using aerosol cans. The town hall services intervened to clean the steles.

The prefect condemns “with the utmost firmness these anti-Semitic acts, as cowardly as they are infamous”. He adds : “Anyone who harms our compatriots of the Jewish faith undermines the Republic and the fundamental base of our values.”

The press release also mentions the physical attack on a 15-year-old schoolboy on Tuesday in Eure. The teenager was also “insulted by two individuals shouting ‘dirty Jew'”.

“For each case, judicial investigations are open”specifies the press release. “Reinforced security measures have already been taken.”
