Four firefighters were injured in operation in the town of Aubais, in the Gard, when a major fire broke out around 3 p.m. One of them is in “absolute emergency”, evacuated by helicopter to the Montpellier University Hospital after burns to his hands and face. A tank truck is partially destroyed.

The fire took in a forest of pines and holm oaks and has already destroyed 250 hectares. The evolution of the fire is still “unfavourable” indicate the firefighters, due to the strong wind and the drought. No favorable evolution of weather conditions is expected for several hours. Several hundred hectares are threatened. More than 200 firefighters are mobilized, supported by 4 Canadair, a Dash and a water bomber helicopter.

Traffic is currently completely interrupted on the A9 motorway, between Gallargues and Lunel. An equestrian center was evacuated, as well as a house inhabited by two octogenarians. The fire is close to several villages, including Aubais, Aigues-Vives and Gallargues.
Part of the Gard was placed this Sunday in “extreme” vigilance vis-à-vis the fire risk.
