Four departments in the south-west of France were placed on orange vigilance for thunderstorms, Saturday June 17, by Météo France. These are Landes, Gers, Pyrénées-Atlantiques and Hautes-Pyrénées. These storms will bring sudden gusts of wind that can locally exceed 100 km / h and sometimes heavy hailstorms, warns the meteorological institute.
This stormy degradation from Spain will reach the south of Aquitaine and the west of Midi-Pyrénées between the end of the day and the middle of next night. The strongest thunderstorms mainly concern the departments in orange vigilance. But the risk may be extended to certain neighboring departments depending on the evolution of the forecast, specifies Météo France on its site.
Thunderstorms had already caused heavy rainfall in Vienne on Thursday late afternoon. The episode, which only lasted an hour, had dumped up to 35 mm of water in the department. Enough to flood the municipalities of Poitiers and Buxerolles. The firefighters had to intervene more than a hundred times.
