Météo France placed, Thursday, February 17, five departments in orange vigilance for risks of wind and waves-submersion. The departments concerned are Manche, Nord, Pas-de-Calais, Seine-Maritime and Somme. Eunice, a strong winter storm, will cause strong gusts of wind from the Cotentin to Nord-Pas-de-Calais on Friday and a major episode of submersion waves on the coasts of Seine-Maritime, Somme and Pas-de-Calais .
Météo France speaks of a “very strong winter storm requiring special vigilance”. “The most violent gusts are expected during the afternoon, in Pas-de-Calais and the North, with values around 120 to 130 km / h, locally 140 km / h on the coasts; in the inside they will reach 100 to 120 km/h, locally 130 km/h on the heights”specifies Météo France.
“These stormy winds from West to South-West generate strong waves and a temporary elevation”adds Météo France. “In a context of high tidal coefficients, the combination of high sea levels and strong waves risks causing submersion in exposed or vulnerable areas of the coast of the departments placed on wave submersion vigilance.”
