Four departments in the south-west of France are placed on orange alert for storms, Tuesday June 18. The Météo-France alert concerns the departments of Gironde, Dordogne, Lot-et-Garonne and Landes. If “the event has not yet started in the departments on orange alert”warns the institute in its bulletin, “sometimes strong thunderstorms are expected at the end of the afternoon and evening in New Aquitaine, with in particular heavy rainfall and heavy hail”.

When storms pass, Météo-France expects hail, with a “marked risk of hailstones with a diameter greater than 2 cm”of the “cumulative rainfall of up to 30 to 50 mm in a short time” and “gusts of the order of 90 to 100 km/h”. The storms will then evacuate towards the north of the Massif Central and Center-Val-de-Loire during the night.
