Typhoon Yagi, which swept across northern Vietnam, left more than 200 dead and caused enormous damage even in the capital, Hanoi.

Yen Bai, in northern Vietnam, is a large town disfigured by Typhoon Yagi. On site, muddy streets stretch out, strewn with debris. Another day after the deluge, no city in the north of the country seems spared. Even the capital Hanoi remains with its feet in the water, and if thousands of people were able to leave their homes, others have stayed and must fend for themselves.

“I have to carry this bottle home, we have no more drinking water, the pipes have been cut, we are overwhelmed”explains a father, who is pulling a can in a basket, his feet in the muddy water. The striking image of this deadly typhoon: a bridge collapsing, taking with it vehicles. Yagi has already caused hundreds of deaths and missing people and major landslides. The army continues to dig out bodies, and families mourn the victims. Thailand, a neighboring country, has also been affected. A large part of Southeast Asia and its millions of inhabitants are affected.
