(Laval) Montrealer William Dandjinou took advantage of a penalty against his compatriot Steven Dubois to win gold in the 1000-meter event, Sunday, at the Four Continents Short Track Speed ​​Skating Championships, presented at Place Bell .


Dandjinou finished the A final behind Dubois. But the referee ruled that Dubois had illegally pushed a rival during the race and he was penalized.

The victory therefore went to Dandjinou. South Korean Park Jiwon won silver and Japanese Yui Matsubayashi took bronze.

The day before, Dubois, from Lachenaie, had won in the 500 meters, ahead of Sherbrooke’s Jordan Pierre-Gilles. Dubois also won silver in the 1500 meters.

Montrealer Jérôme Courtemanche, who was participating in a first senior international competition sanctioned by the ISU, was penalized during the 1000 meters semi-finals on Sunday.

Another double for the ladies

Courtney Sarault, from Moncton, and Danaé Blais, from Châteauguay, scored a second double over the weekend. They finished second and third respectively behind American Kristen Santos-Griswold in the A final of the women’s 1000 meters.

The three skaters finished in the same order on Saturday, in the 1500 meters.

Santos-Griswold thus completed the sweep of the three individual women’s events during the weekend.

In the A final of the 1000 meters on Sunday, Blais beat South Korean Lee Soyoun by 18 thousandths of a second at the finish line to obtain her second bronze medal of the weekend.

Trifluvian Florence Brunelle won the B final to take sixth place overall in the event.

The finals of the mixed 2000 meters, women’s 3000 meters and men’s 5000 meters relays were also presented later on Sunday. Canada was A finals in every event.

The Four Continents Championships bring together athletes from the Americas, Africa, Asia and Oceania.
